"My husband and I arrived at the Pebble Beach Vacation Cottage after a 22-hour road trip from Colorado. We had just gotten married and were excited to begin our honeymoon with some much needed down time on the California coast. Our car was packed to the gills with everything from wedding gifts to our beloved dog, Osa. We could not have lucked out more in finding our hosts Sheila and Peggi and the wonderful little cottage nestled in behind their house. Sheila and Peggi went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we felt pampered in every way.

From the goody basket that awaited us when we arrived to their conscientious suggestions on eateries and beaches in the area, they were the perfect hosts. Our pooch enjoyed their pet-friendly pampering as well. We were also pleased to find that this cottage could not be more perfectly located within the gate of 17-mile drive and only minutes away from Monterrey, Carmel and Spanish Bay.

If you are looking for an unpretentious yet pampering getaway near some of the most beautiful landscapes in California, this is the place for you. We are certainly looking forward to our one-year anniversary when we plan to visit again with Sheila and Peggi."

"To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we decided to return to the "scene of the crime", the Monterey peninsula, where we married at the Carmel Mission in October 1988. After considering all our options in Carmel, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, we decided on the Cottage in the Forest. Best decision we could have made!

Sheila and Peggi were gracious and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They had stocked the cottage with an assortment of goodies & a nice bottle of congratulatory wine. The cottage itself is cozy and quiet - a nice change from impersonal hotel rooms on busy streets.

As avid cyclists, we were eager to get out & ride the 17 Mile Dr., which is conveniently located just a couple blocks away. The ride was so breathtaking, we had to do it again (and again), and eventually rode over to the Monterey Wharf area where we rested on a bluff while the otters entertained. If you like to bicycle, the cottage is ideally situated; ride in one direction to Monterey, turn the other way and you're off to Carmel. Either way is fronted by some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. And when you arrive back at the cottage, there's a nice sunny deck for relaxing & resting weary legs.

"I've been in a long-distance relationship for the last 5 months and I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a special trip when he came up to visit. We stayed at the cottage for an evening and were so pleased with the hospitality and service we received. "Our stay at the Cottage was a much-needed break from Life. Sheila was the perfect hostess, tailoring our vacation to our personalities - providing us with area activities beforehand, welcoming us with wine and chocolates, making us feel right at home immediately. We had everything we needed. There were nice touches like plants, reading lamps, books, local maps, and great dishes to use while we were there.

The yard was beautiful and peaceful, and our dog loved it too.  When it rained, it was cozy and fun to just stay in. The bed is one of the best I've slept in, and I'm pretty much the Princess and the Pea.

The cottage is also central to Carmel and Monterey, with everything fun to do within minutes, and a pretty drive from Santa Cruz and Big Sur for great day trips.

We truly felt at home the entire week, and got all the rest and relaxation we needed. It was the best vacation both of us have ever had. We're already recommending Shelia's place to friends, and would absolutely come back again. Thanks so much for such a wonderful experience!"

"The Cottage in the Forest is a very special place. My husband and I were in Carmel for the Carmel Arts Festival, which I was competing in. The location was so convenient to everywhere we needed to go. The cottage is charming and very comfortable...we had some of the most restful nights we've had in a long time there. Having a refrigerator and the small stove top was great for fixing quick breakfasts and boiling water for tea, before heading out on my painting excursions. Having internet access was tremendously helpful for my husband as he had to stay in touch with work during our time there.

The best part of our stay here was getting to know the owners...they are two of the kindest, most generous, enthusiastic people we have ever met. Sheila and Peggi went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, taking care of laundry, providing a wonderful snack basket, teas and coffee, giving advice on places to eat, shop, paint...you name it and they were ready to help. They were so kind as to let me ship my painting supplies there too, making sure that everything was ready for us when we arrived. They also brought us magazines about the area and had a nice collection of inspirational books to enjoy. We loved all the little message stones too! I know we have found friends for life.

We can't wait to go back to Carmel again and we will definitely book the Cottage in the Forest when we do. It is quiet, comfortable and a wonderful place to relax and be inspired."
